The west African examination council (WAEC) upon releasing the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has withheld the results of 977 candidates for alleged exam malpractice. The council has however promised to bring to the issue after investigations are concluded into the various cases of malpractice.
Additionally, Subject Results of 417 candidates have been cancelled for bringing foreign material into the examination hall and engaging in collusion.
The entire results of 44 candidates have been canceled for bringing mobile phones into the examination hall, according to a statement signed by the Head Affairs-WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe.
The withheld results of candidates may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations, the statement added.
The Council however extended it gratitude by extending its most sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners and all who in various ways supported it in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
