CONFIRMED: Junior High Schools semester-based system explained, Academic Calendar Inclusive-Check it Out

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has finally released the 2020/2021 academic calendar depicting a semester system for Junior High Schools in the country.

The Director-General of GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwah in a press briefing earlier today, 4th June 2021 made this revelation. According to the DGs briefing, he explained that the semester progmme is to enable students and teachers to cover up the periods and instructional hours lost due to the closure of schools during the outbreak of the pandemic.

ANALYSIS OF THE SEMESTER PROGRAMME

According to the approved academic calendar by the MOE/GES, the first semester will commence on the 18th of January, 2021 to June 11, 2021 with a 23-day vacation (12th June, 2021 to 5th July,2021) for form 1-3 students.

However, the second semester will begin from the 6th of July 2021 to 7th December 2021. This particular semester will have a vacation period from the 8th of December 2021 to January 2022 for form 1 and two students only.

With respect to the same second semester, form 3 students will begin the semester on 6th July 2021 until they finish writing their final exams (BECE) in November 2021.  

Meanwhile, there shall be a mid-semester break within both semesters. With regards to the first semester, there shall be a break from March 15 to 19, 2021 while for the second semester, there shall be a midterm break from September 6 to 10 2021.
