The Ghana Education Service (GES) as a body takes delight in promoting its employees annually. This covers both pupil teachers and professional teachers.
This article will mainly focus on the colleges of education graduates who are posted to the classroom after their national service. I believe that currently, there are no pupil teachers in GES if my mind will serve me right.
Every graduate from the college is put on the rank of Senior Superintendent II when posted but very soon the trend will change where individuals from the college of education will be put on the rank of Principal Superintendent-the reason being that they will be awarded a degree certificate.
Many teachers always get themselves confused as to when one is due for promotion. This piece is to throw more light on the number of years one has to serve before being promoted in GES.
According to the Ghana Education Service, a person directly posted after college is supposed to be due for promotion after serving four years on the grade by the time promotion windows are opened. Let’s say you completed college in the year 2017. You will be due for promotion on September 1st 2021-and this will lead to a college graduate who had served for four years be promoted to Senior Superintendent I after passing all the necessary interviews and exams.
In GES, every little promotion counts because some meaningful amounts of money would be added to your monthly salary. However, if you want to occupy a position either in the classroom or the education office, then promotion should be included in your professional priorities.
Now, let’s take a look at the rank of an individual who obtains a degree certificate (B.Ed.) is being put on. Principal Superintendent (PS) is the rank an individual is put on after obtaining his/her Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) either through regular, distance, or sandwich mode. Have you now realized that being a regular student and being a sandwich student does not make any difference?
However, an individual at the rank of Principal Superintendent has to serve for a minimum of six (6) years before being upgraded/promoted to the rank of Assistant Director II.
