List of MPs who have made education a priority in their various constituencies -Check Out their Marvelous works

Listengh.net in collaboration with Educand Ghana has compiled a list of some Members of Parliament (MPs) who have education of their constituents at heart. This includes the educational contributions made by these individuals in their constituencies without the support of the government.

Today, we will shine the light on these individuals who have made all stakeholders of education proud. Hon. Dr. Yaw Adutwum (Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe), Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (Member of Parliament for Ketu South) and Hon. Afenyo Makin (Member of Parliament for Effutu) are the honorable members who have caught our attention. The contributions of these highly respected persons are being discussed below:

  1. Hon. Dr. Yaw Adutwum (Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe)

Hon Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is a Member of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana representing the people of Bosomtwe Constituency in the Ashanti Region. He was the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of General Education in the first term of the Akufo-Addo led NPP Government but now the substantive education minister.

On Monday, 11th January 2021, the MP took to his various social media handles to announce a fully sponsored scholarship package for 30 students from his constituency to study at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT). According to him, the package included full payment of fees, provision of accommodation, and free provision of transportation. He however believes he is not yet done as he hopes to ensure that the Bosomtwe constituency gets 100 engineers within the next ten years.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu in the Volta region. He served as a deputy minister of state under both John Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama. This is not his first time showing love for education in his constituency. . He introduced a scheme to help students financially during the erstwhile Mahama administration when he became the deputy minister of education. According to him, he believes no students with admission tertiary must stay at home, hence he had launched “Operation No Student with Tertiary admission Stays at home” to help all individuals get access to tertiary education.

According to the MP, the scholarship is mainly to cater for students facing financial challenges. He is therefore urging all individuals who had admission to any of the various tertiary institutions to get in touch for financial support.

The member of parliament seems to have the welfare and conditions of teachers at heart. He is the only MP in Ghana who has distributed laptop computers to every teacher in his constituency. On the 11th of January, 2021, he gave out 40 brand new laptop computers to recently posted newly trained teachers in his constituency. This will help build the IT knowledge of these teachers which will later be imparted unto our children in the classroom.
