Napo reveals nine (9) categories of staff entitled to responsibility allowance- Check them out

The Minister of Education, Hon. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh has disclosed that there are nine categories of staff in the Ghana Education service who are entitled to responsibility allowance. He made this revelation today, October 29, 2020, during Nation Building Updates under the theme “The Teacher at the Center of Quality education”.

According to the minister, all staff who are entitled to responsibility allowance are being paid that is 35,515 staff from basic, SHS to office are being paid. Currently, there are nine categories of staff who are entitled to responsibility allowance thus;

  1. Basic School Head
  2. Headmaster/Mistress
  3. Assistant Headmaster/mistress
  4. Chaplain/ Imam
  5. Form master/Mistress
  6. Guidance and counseling coordinator
  7. Head of department (Programme Head)
  8. Housemaster/Mistress
  9. Unit head

In his submission he also explained that, teachers who went the last promotion in July have their  statuses changed and therefore the Ghana Education service has reworked out the allowances so that it goes to those who have to occupy those new positions and this  does not mean the responsivity allowance has being cancelled and therefore called on all teachers to disregard the fake news being spread by some individuals.

He, however, disclosed the total number of allowances being enjoyed by teachers currently. The vehicle maintenance allowance, kilometric allowance, night allowance, allowance for teachers in deprived areas and difficult areas, retention allowance, protective clothing allowance, advance to purchase means of transport, salary advance, special allowance, transfer grant, permanent posting allowance, and responsibility allowance are all allowances that are being enjoyed by teachers as asserted by the minister.
