Users of MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) will be required to present a valid national Identification card before transactions can be made at merchant and agent points. This move will be effective from February 1st, 2021.
According to telecommunications giants MTN, recognized identification cards such as the Ghana card, Driving license, voters ID, NHIS are the eligible identification cards for making transactions.
The telecommunication giant further noted that, when an agent is performing a cash-out for a subscriber, the agent is required to select ID type and enter ID number of the card the user provides.
The move according to MTN Ghana is to encourage digitization of merchant payment in Ghana’s open market and to serve as a mechanism to check fraudulent transactions.
