Schools which serve as polling stations should close for the day of elections-GES Directs


The Ghana education service has issued a press statement concerning the break of schools. A statement sighted by Listengh.net endorsed by the Deputy Director-General of GES, Anthony Boateng indicates that all schools are should provide a break to the academic calendar from Friday 4th December to 7th December 2020.

According to the statement, the break is intended to provide an opportunity for students who wish to travel home to do so during the voting period.

“Notwithstanding, all students who wish to stay on campus during the period are expected to be fed and will be required to comply with all school regulations as well as health and safety protocols put in place”, the statement added.

It is however expected that all student s will return to school for normal academic work to resume on Tuesday 8th December, 2020.

The service has moreover stated categorically that basic (JHS 2) and Senior High Schools (SHS 2) are to vacate on Friday 18th December 2020. It has also urged all heads of schools to close schools which will serve as polling stations on the day of elections.
