The Minister Designate for Education, Dr.Yaw Adutwum during ministerial vetting has revealed that if given the node to become the education minister, his windows and doors will be opened for both students and teachers.
He however indicated that students should see
him as the teacher in chief and not just a minister.
“Students should see me as the teacher in chief. They should look forward to seeing me in their classrooms. They should know that my doors will always be open to them, even my windows will be open to them. I could feel the sincerity”, he said.
Dr. Adutwum informed the vetting Committee that government plans to build 20 centres in some selected communities for students to have unique skills and prepare for the job market. He indicated his support for the Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) which he described as a good initiative.
In his further submission relating to how students can have access to student loans without guarantors, he indicated that he intends to transform the procedure in accessing student loans. He stressed that it should be possible for students to apply for loans at the time they were applying for admission to the university so that they can access it immediately they get admission.
He however added that he intends to communicate with relevant stakeholders to work on getting a bill that will be agreeable to all interested parties when he was asked about the controversies that the Public University Bill has generated
