UCC Top-Up: Teachers disappointed as the portal for application is shut abruptly

The management of the university of cape coast in collaboration with the major stakeholders in the country recently announced their intention to help all Diploma Holding teachers to upgrade themselves by introducing a one-year sandwich top-up for colleagues in the chalk fraternity.

Many teachers across the length and breadth of the country hail the idea and received it as welcoming news.

On Thursday, October 15, 2020, the portal registration of the named programme was shut down. This came as a big surprise and a disappointment to teachers as well as there was no communique from the Cape Coast University to that effect. The application processes began on October 7, 2020, and ended on October 15, 2020, which many teachers deem as unfair.

However, observations made by our news team indicate that the majority of teachers are yet to subscribe to this initiative but have been denied. This group of teachers is mainly people who did not get access to the information earlier.

In a social media discussion monitored by Listengh.net an affected teacher wrote, “I think the closing down of the 3-semester programme portal need immediate attention since the closing date of the application have not been communicated to any one of us. Many are yet to apply and we will be glad if they will open the portal again”.

These teachers are therefore calling on the stakeholders and the university  to reopen application for those who could not apply.

The registration process for this programme is not directly done on the UCC portal but rather through google forms which the university has created to accumulate details of interested persons. Even with the direct portal application, sometimes the site goes down without the knowledge of the IT experts of the institution so it is likely to be the same issue related to the problem under discussion. If it happens to be technical hitches, the institute is likely to reopen the portal for the second time for individuals to continue with the application processes.
